West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin took a trip back millions of years after seeing a demo of an innovative geology mobile phone application last weekend. On the day that world-famous time-traveller Doctor Who returned to TV screens, Harriett took her own steps back in time to discover the secrets of the past. The MP attended the launch of a mobile phone application at a meeting of the Abberley and Malvern Hills Geopark Forum on Saturday (August 23). The application has been designed to show all the key geological features along the renowned Worcestershire Way walk and even shows what areas of the county would have looked like millions of years ago. She was given a demonstration of the application and shown how it can be used by tourists, school children and geology enthusiasts to learn more about the landscape along the Worcestershire Way. The application, which works on almost all mobile devices, has GPS capability and will track where you are showing you pictures of your location and all the interesting geological features of the location. Harriett commented: “This really is a stunning application and I am sure it will be very popular with people who come to this beautiful part of the world to come and walk. “I was particularly amazed to see the valley where I live as it might have looked millions of years ago and it is amazing to see all the events which have shaped our river and hills. “I hope that many people add the app to their mobile phone and explore through time whilst walking through our beautiful landscape.” The app has been designed by Shrewsbury-based designer Michael Brooks, who has also created geological apps for neighbouring counties.
