West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has handed out the first gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards to members of Malvern’s Girls’ Brigade. This is the first time the local Girls’ Brigade has attained the coveted awards and Harriett made the four presentations at a ceremony at Malvern Theatre on Saturday (January 3) as well as giving Gold awards to seven members of the Boys Brigade. The presentation was a double celebration for Natasha Larrett, who was the first ever Malvern Girls' Brigade recipient of a Gold as well as celebrating her 18th birthday with her twin brother Alex the day before. Harriett commented: “It is an honour to be asked to make these presentations to the Brigade’s first female Gold Award winners from Malvern and I was eager to celebrate this amazing milestone with them. “A huge amount of dedication and effort goes in to winning a Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award and this is always a great occasion for both the girls and the seven boys who have also succeeded this year. “I was able to congratulate the winners and their parents and was keen to pay tribute to Paul Hern and his team of officers who have been steadfast champions of the Malvern Brigade for many years. “We are all proud of their efforts and the amazing winners who I am sure will all go on to make Malvern proud in the future.” Photo: : Four Girls Brigade Gold award winners pictured (l-r) Lauren Attree, Stacey Nicoll, Harriett Baldwin MP, Natasha Larrett, Jess Kinsey.
