New Silver Surfer Ivor Stephens took his first steps into the digital world last week when he sent his very first email to West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin. The 92-year-old was joined by his niece, Grace Elliott at an IT class at the Cube in Malvern and last month invested in an iPad which he used to send his debut email to the MP. Email tuition is one of a number of skills covered in classes run by Ryan Seaborne of ActivateIT in sessions at community centres in and around Malvern. Harriett said: “I get hundreds of emails each day but I will treasure the one I received from Ivor. “As more and more services are available online, IT really can make life easier for many people but for some of our more elderly residents, it is a scary new challenge. “There are many really bright people who are helping the local community to make the most of the digital world and I welcome the efforts of people like Ryan who are working very hard to ensure that older people don’t feel intimidated by IT. “ActivateIT is an impressive venture and I wish Ryan all the best as he helps more and more people to get online and get to grips with computer technology.” Photo: Ivor Stephens and niece Grace Elliott get to grips with Ivor’s first email at an ActivateIT course at Malvern Cube.
