West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin this week ushered in a new era for Pershore High School’s budding artists when she formally opened the new art block. Harriett unveiled the new classrooms at a ceremony yesterday (October 1). It is part of a £3.4 million project to improve facilities at the school including a new humanities block which is due for completion next year. Today’s event was the culmination of a two-year lobbying project in which Harriett approached the Education Funding Agency to support the school’s bid for funds. Harriett cut the ribbon on the new art block and was then taken on a tour on the new facilities with local dignitaries. Harriett commented: “Last summer, I joined Clive Corbett and his team in hard hats and high visibility jackets to start the demolition process and just a year later, we are able to walk around this amazing new facility. “I was pleased to be able to congratulate the team and play my small part in helping bring this project to fruition and I look forward to seeing the further phases of this work getting completed in due course. “I studied art at A level and I can imagine what a difference these great new classrooms are making to the young artists working here." Headteacher Clive Corbett added: “I was so pleased that Harriett could join us to mark another stage in the development of Pershore High School. We are very grateful for the unstinting support that our local MP offers us.” Photo: Pershore High School’s Headteacher Clive Corbett and Harriett Baldwin MP unveil the plaque marking the opening of the school’s new artblock.
