West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin offered a local student an once-in-a-lifetime work experience week to shadow her MP during an historic week in Westminster.
Emily Tarry-Wright, who lives in Beckford, was given the chance to work alongside the MP as part of a work experience programme. Emily had written to Chancellor George Osborne asking for work experience and Harriett offered to help both as Emily’s MP and also as a Treasury Minister.
The work experience programme included spending time in Harriett’s Conservative association office, shadowing Harriett in Westminster and also at her appointments in the constituency.
Harriett commented: "I always enjoy giving young people who are interested in politics a taste of what is involved in being an MP. Emily was full of curiosity about the role and like me was rooting for Theresa May to be our next Prime Minister.
“I hope that her week's work experience has given her a very detailed insight into the work of an MP and the wide variety of issues that get covered in a week’s work.
“At a time when we saw a leadership contest including two female candidates, it is very timely to be welcoming the next generation of leaders to Westminster and I hope Emily was inspired and informed by her work experience.”
